Lise was good at tracking. She always had. She had a keen eye for detail. Over the years, the talent was given to to develop and become well honed. Vampires were creatures of habit. She could pick up on their trails easily. Even the most clever vamp, left something behind. Lise just had to be smart enough to figure it out and come out in one piece. She been watching on in partcular for several days. She didn't know where the rest of its nest was. He always seemed to hunt alone. This was a good thing, but also might complicate things.
If the vampire was on its own. It only meant she had to deal with the one. But if their were more., she might get to over confident and have to deal with the entire nest while trying to take out the one. Either way, the job had to be done. She really didn't want to spend more time than she had to in this town.
--------------
It felt like Lise was fighting this vampire for days. In fact it had only been an hour or two at the most. Mostly chasing and a bit of actual fighting. Sometimes she wished for supernatural stamina. Anything that could let her keep up with what she was fighting. Perspiration laced her soft features and she was growing tired. "Can you just f**king die already?", she asked in frustration at the snarling vampire.
She barely dodged the lunge of the vampires hands. She had caught him just before he was about to make a tasty morsel of a young college girl. Interrupting a feed wasn't a smart move, but she wasn't about to stand there and watch an innocent get slaughtered. Now it seemed the blood thirsty bastard wanted to put Lise on the menu.
Her muscles were aching. She had put too much effort into following the fleeing vamp at first. Too much wasted energy. She knew she should have waited, regained the upper hand again. Surprise was a hunter's friend. Her breath was heavy as she fended off another attack and countering with one of her own.
Her well developed ears picked up the sound of movement behind her. With a quick glance she looked behind her and cursed loudly with what she saw. Two more vampires stalked closer to her. "Son of a pregnant dog!" She yelled. She had been set up. Lise didn't know that the vampire she had been following, knew she was on to him. He was the leader of a small nest. He was the bait for the rest of his family's attack on the young hunter.
Her head whipped back around just a few seconds too late. The vampire's fist collided with her jaw. The force knocked her against the alleyways brick wall. She grunted in pain. The vamp had one hell of a right cross. As she tried to knock the cobwebs from her head the other vamps moved in. The surrounded Lise. She fought back as best she could but they pinned her to the wall.
This was not the way she wanted to go out. Not the way she wanted to die. Hunters rarely lived long. The lucky ones were the ones that got out of the business and retired. They got to have what seemed like a pipe dream to the brunette now...a life. She struggled in their grasp. She wasn't going to go down quietly.
She wriggled her wrists with everything she had. If she was going down she was taking at least one of them with her. She freed her hand that held her dagger and slashed hard at the closest vampire's throat. A spray of its blood flew everywhere. Lise cursed at it hit her shirt. "Dammit you prick. That was a good shirt." Before she could get another word in edgewise. The other two vamps gripped at her. One held her by the throat and the other held her in place. So this was it. She knew what was coming next. She only hoped they didn't want to try to turn her. She closed her eyes and silently prayed it was quick.
